Mixed catch is a major problem in fisheries around the world, and it often causes more damage to non-target species that have been depleted. For decades or even centuries, fishermen have used lights to attract fish. LED lights have the opportunity to become popular because they are relatively cheap, easy to apply to current fishing nets, and can be reconfigured for different environments. LED lights are generally installed in large fishing nets, which can illuminate the escape route of the trawl, allow non-target species to escape, reduce the number of mixed catches by half, and protect the environment and fishermen's livelihoods.
